What is your favorite recipe?

About 15 years ago, a friend gave me one of those life changing books, out of the blue. It was a raw plant food recipe book by the amazing David Avocado Wolfe. At the time, I’ve never even heard of a raw plant food diet before, and what it means exactly. Needless to say: that specific book changed my eating habits over a long period of time (around 15 years up to this very day).

When I invested time to read the recipes, I decided to first start with green juicing. I ordered organic greens online, got a juicer and started juicing. I cringed with my first green juice, but it got better and better over time. Then I found superfoods in Cape Town (Peter and Beryn Daniel started the business in 2007 after finishing a David Wolfe workshop in England). Peter gave extremely interesting and informative workshops here, about raw plant foods and what it does to your body, mind and soul. They served plant based foods for lunch and the taste of it were luxurious! So, I invested in a dehydrator (cooking foods under 46 degrees keeps the minerals and vitamins in tact to allow your body to function optimally).

In 2013 David Wolfe came to Cape Town and I was so excited to meet him. The people who mainly ate a raw plant based diet at David’s workshop, had a beautiful energy around them, like when you are with birds for example. They made you feel light. David also signed his Eating for Beauty book, and up this day, I make a beautifying salad from ingredients in this book most days (he explains why, in detail, it’s a beautifying food, what it does to your cells etc). This is my favorite recipe:

Greens (like in this blog photo), preferable micro greens (home grown is best)

Tomato

Cucumber

Hemp seeds (raw and hulled)

Pumpkin seeds (raw)

Spring onion

Avocado (my favorite sun fruit of all time).

Mix together with some sea salt and black pepper, and enjoy!

I have used my own body as an experiment by incorporating some raw plant foods in my diet over time, and noticed how much less I need to go to the doctor or dentist with this kind of diet. My skin changed and I felt lighter and lighter. There was a long period of cleansing which I had to go through, but I persevered and am so happy I did. I also started growing my own greens, vegetables and herbs!

During a kind of spiritual awakening period ten years after I got the David Wolfe book, I started observing birds. I thought they could live very lightly on just seeds which is everywhere in abundance, so I realized that I can too, eat only avocadoes for the rest of my life, easily. But, I’m still working on that and I will allow my soul to guide me to the next phase of working closely with Nature and having respect in all aspects for all living creatures, including myself.

Enjoy your day!
